Protect your files and photos by making sure they're safely backed up. Use the following table to decide which backup solution is best for you.

Backup solution

Things to consider

Cloud-based backup

Want to back up your content so it's safe and easy to access? We recommend using a cloud-based backup solution.

With cloud-based backups:

  • Your data is safely stored in the cloud

  • You can easily access your content across multiple devices

  • You don't need to purchase hardware

  • Recovering files is easy and instant

You'll need:

  • A cloud-based storage location

  • Internet access

External hard drive or network drive backups

It may be best to use an external storage device or network drive backup in these cases:

  • When internet access isn't available

  • When you need to store large files or a large number of files. In these situations, the files generally take longer to upload, and it might cost more to store files.

You'll need:

  • An external hard drive or network drive

Legacy backups

We recommend you consider modern backup options like the ones listed above, as they're easier to manage and non-destructive.
If you've used Backup and Restore in Windows 7, consider moving your content to a cloud-based backup.

Traditional file-level backup solutions are great for small-scale restores and recovering data after accidental deletion. However, they are not suitable for large-scale recovery as the downtime stretches beyond the acceptable duration. Also, they do not retain the drive's content, and information structure, leading to ineffective data restores that require additional time for reorganization. IDrive’s Disk Clone lets you backup the entire drive / hard disk on your computer to the cloud or an external hard drive, including OS and all, with content and information structure intact.

IDrive’s ‘Disk Clone’ feature captures the hard drive as ‘image’ files that represent the entire content as it is. The image file can then be used to perform a system restore on the same or different computer. In case you do not want to restore the disk image but merely want to access specific files or folders, you can mount the disk image on the OS of any computer and view and access the disk image as a separate drive. You can save the required data from the mounted drive. IDrive provides the most cost effective, secure online backup solution.

The disk image files created using IDrive’s cloud backup applications are cross-compatible, which means the files can be accessed from any PC, Mac, or Linux system.
